Have you ever sat and looked at the pile of crochet projects and felt completely overwhelmed by what to tackle first? Whether you are crocheting for a market or just trying to get all those Christmas presents done in time, without clear goals and a plan, it can be easy to get lost in the process and not achieve what we set out to do. Setting goals is an important aspect of any business, including crochet, and it can help to make the most of your crochet time.

Why set goals?
Setting goals for your crochet can help you to stay focused and motivated. It gives you a clear idea of what you want to achieve and a plan for how to get there. Having a goal in mind can also help you to stay on track and avoid getting sidetracked by other projects or distractions. The SMART acronym helps us set criteria for goals that work! It’s as follows:

- Be specific: When setting goals, it’s important to be specific. Instead of setting a general goal of “I want to crochet more,” set a specific goal such as “I want to crochet for an hour every day” or “I want to finish a specific project by a certain date.”
- Make them measurable: Make your goals measurable, so you can track your progress. For example, instead of setting a goal of “I want to improve my crochet skills,” set a goal of “I want to learn how to crochet a specific stitch by the end of the month.”
- Make them achievable: Make sure your goals are achievable. It’s important to set goals that are challenging but not impossible. For example, setting a goal of crocheting three blankets in one day is likely not achievable!
- Make them relevant: Make sure your goals are relevant to your current to do list. For example, maybe you want to learn a brand new stitch, but you’ve got 10 beanie orders waiting to be completed. While it might be an admiral goal to learn new skills, maybe your priority should be to finish your orders. That way you can fully enjoy your “me” crochet time. We want to reduce stress where ever possible.
- Make them time-bound: Give yourself a deadline for achieving your goal. This will help you to stay motivated and on track.
By setting specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound goals, you can make the most of your time and feel a sense of achievement! Happy crocheting!
