Did you know that Halloween is Irish?

Did you know that Halloween, with all its eerie allure, has deep roots in the misty landscapes of Ireland. Tracing back to ancient Celtic traditions, particularly the festival of Samhain, the origins of Halloween are intertwined with the mystical. Samhain marked the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter, a time when the boundary between the world of the living and the spirit realm was believed to be at its thinnest. It was during this time that the Celts carved turnips and other root vegetables, lighting them with embers to guide the way for spirits and protect their homes from malevolent entities. This tradition eventually evolved into the familiar Jack-O-Lantern we know today, named after the figure of “Stingy Jack” from Irish folklore. These traditions were brought to America by the Irish who were leaving their homeland due to the Great Hunger in the 1800’s.
