From Cardigan Dreams to Cozy Pet Blanket!
We’ve all got one… that half-finished crochet project that’s just sitting there, patiently waiting for its time to shine. For me, that project was a cardigan with a cute, festive twist: a Merry Catmas Crochet Chart! But here’s the thing—I never quite finished the cardigan. 😅 Instead of letting this adorable chart gather dust, I’m releasing it for all you fellow crocheters to get creative with! Whether you turn it into a pet blanket, a full-size throw, or even resurrect my original cardigan idea, this versatile chart can be used in a bunch of fun ways. Let’s dive into how you can use this festive kitty to spread some holiday cheer!

Reviving the Cardigan Dream: Let’s start with the OG idea. The plan was for this gingerbread cat to live on the back of a snuggly Christmas cardigan. I was going to pair it with some simple front panels and sleeves (nothing too crazy), so the festive kitty could be the star of the show on the back.
Pet Blanket for Your Festive Furry Friend: Looking for a quicker project? Why not turn the chart into a snuggly holiday blanket for your pet? The size of the design makes it perfect for a pet blanket. Once the main pattern is complete, you can crochet a border around it to create a cute blanket for your cat or dog.
For added holiday flair, you could even make the border in Christmas colors — think red, green, and white. If your pet’s anything like mine, they’ll love lounging on something that’s soft, cozy, and handmade just for them.
C2C (Corner-to-Corner) Blanket: Cozy Up for Catmas: If you’re more of a blanket enthusiast, the Merry Catmas chart would be perfect for a C2C (corner-to-corner) blanket. The C2C method will naturally make the design much larger, which means your gingerbread cat and the festive message will stand out even more! This would be the ultimate throw blanket for the holiday season — big, warm, and perfect for snuggling up under with a cup of hot cocoa (or a snoozing cat) while watching Christmas movies. If you like C2C blankets we have another Free Pattern that you might be interested in!
Some Tips for Making It Your Own:
- Yarn Choice: If you want a smaller, more compact piece (like a pet blanket), go for a finer yarn like DK or worsted. For a larger C2C blanket, chunky yarn would be perfect for making it extra cozy.
- Colors: Stick with classic gingerbread and holiday colors, or mix things up!
- Border Ideas: If you’re making a blanket, get creative with the border! A candy cane stripe effect or a fluffy white border (like a Santa suit!) would be super fun. You could even add some tassels or pom-poms at the corners for extra flair.
